Company scoops £5,000 and co-founder Max Haydon will brunch with Richard Branson

Storage Shepherd, an innovative storage solution company, has been crowned the Newcastle winner of the Virgin Media Business Voom Pitch competition. Co-founders Max Haydon and Jeffery Widjaja collect £5,000 for their business. Max will also get to meet Richard Branson to discuss business ideas over brunch later this year.

Six companies* from Newcastle pitched as part of the Voom Tour to a panel of three judges, which included John Musham, Principle Officer (Enterprise) at Newcastle City Council.

Storage Shepherd impressed the judges with its clear business proposition, which provides an online platform that allows people to rent out spare space in their house, garage, shed or driveway, for others to use as storage.

The concept was borne when Max was still at university. As a second and third year student, he was paying rent on a house that he wasn’t using through the summer months. In order to profit in some way, he decided to rent out his room as storage space to first year students looking to avoid the hassle of moving their belongings out of halls and all the way back home before second year.

Following their win, Max and Jeffery commented: “We’ve been following the VOOM competition for a few years now and this year, we felt we had a strong enough proposition to put forward. We’re so glad we decided to enter. This investment will really propel our business to the next level, allowing us to gain more traction and ultimately, prove our concept.”
