Driving digital transformation for patient care

One of the biggest – and arguably – most exciting changes to impact the health and social care sector in recent years is the transition from the legacy N3 Network to the Health and Social Care Network (HSCN) A ‘network of networks’, the HSCN will allow health and social care organisations to access shared services and information, regardless of your location or network supplier. HSCN is part of a greater sea change happening across the sector. This includes a wider desire to embrace new technology to drive the delivery of improved patient care and build a more efficient and flexible working environment. The breadth and depth of our HSCN solutions portfolio can help you to reach your full digital potential.

Virgin Media Business - supporting your digital strategy

Your trusted Health and Social Care Network (HSCN) partner

As a member of Innopsis (the industry association which has worked closely with NHS Digital to shape HSCN), we at Virgin Media Business have played a key role in designing and planning the new network and will be a certified supplier for HSCN services. We believe we have an important role to act as a trusted partner; not just selling services but also working with you to provide the information, guidance and support you need to take the next step on the digital journey.

Benefitting from the potential of HSCN

The possibilities that a new open and secure network can bring to the health community are not to be underestimated. Faster and more affordable bandwidth will enable new innovative technologies that can be deployed right across the health sector and provide a greater opportunity to share services than ever before. The transition won’t be quick – there is a huge task ahead. But HSCN will open new potential including, for example, sharing notes across agencies via WiFi or mobile networks. It could include the potential to deliver x-rays, MRIs and other medical results to healthcare departments more rapidly and widely. We can help you identify the possibilities that HSCN connectivity can bring to your organisation and support you through the transition with informed guidance and advice.

Virgin Media Business PSN compliance and experience

We at Virgin Media Business are one of the largest providers of networking services in the UK. We’re also experts in the Public Sector. We helped build the Public Services Network (PSN) – used by most of the UK’s public sector. We hold Certificate 001 for DNSP provision as well as ISO 20000 for IT Service Management. In addition to N3 status we have full Public Service Network (PSN) Compliance Certification as a Direct Network Service Provider (DNSP). What’s more, if you’re an existing Virgin Media Business PSN customer (all Local Authorities and some NHS Trusts), you’ll be able to consume HSCN services over your current PSN connection. And, if you have sufficient capacity, you many not need to procure any new connections at all, while opening the door to true collaboration between the NHS and Local Authorities for social care.

We work with you to provide the information, guidance and support you need to take the next step on your digital journey.

Supporting your connectivity for GP IT

As a CCG (Clinical Commission Group), you’ll be looking for ways to improve efficiency across your GP practices whilst providing a great experience for patients and visitors. Strong connectivity enables access to a range of products and services tailored to your needs. This ranges from digital record keeping, appointment booking and repeat prescriptions to the provision of WiFi in your waiting rooms.

How innovation can support patient care

Inspiring examples of using innovation to improve patient care can already be found throughout the UK. North Cumbria University Hospitals NHS Trust provides an out-of-hours Telestroke Network to enable specialist consultants to provide instant diagnosis and specialist care for patients across eight hospitals. This helped to save the lives of 24 people in the first year and as well as £3.9 million in health and social care savings per year.

Digital transformation in the age of austerity

A major barrier to investing in new technology can be cost. There is no doubt that continuing austerity cuts create a difficult environment for digital transformation.

Complex procurement processes and the lack of internal skills or knowledge can also create barriers for health and social care organisations seeking to unleash their digital potential.

We can support your organisation in all of these areas. From raising awareness of available funding, to advising on connectivity and the new HSCN transition, through to voice, mobile and WiFi – our support is underpinned by managed and advisory services.
