My role at Virgin Media Business

I love what I do! I lead the strategic direction of the business. And make sure it aligns with that of Liberty Global.  Which means I get to think about what new areas we should open up, those we should continue to ramp - and the others which might be past their sell-by-date and need less focus.  So a big part of what we do in my team could be described as ‘going digging’ across our business for growth.  And that means I get to be an important player within our innovation stream. Which leads, of course, to our customers getting more value. And that’s quite a buzz.

The best thing I've experienced at Virgin Media Business so far...

Undoubtedly my team! They are brilliant yet humble, collaborative yet strong as individuals. And always hungry to do more, better. That’s an inspiring environment to work in.

What got me here...

Humility works! Especially if you place a certain measure of wit and charm alongside it! But I also think you have to have the drive to do something different and the appetite to do better everyday.

Prior to coming to Virgin Media Business, I spent over 11 years as the Business Planning and Innovation Director for Sony Pictures Entertainment and over 8 years in management consulting with Accenture.

The best advice I've ever given

Don’t just remain open to change and opportunity. Embrace it. And when it’s challenging and difficult, find your steel and go beyond your comfort zone. Then encourage those around you to ride the wave too.  I was also told to be genuine – and to do what you say you’ll do. I try to live by that one, always.

Favourite business saying...

Make good things happen….the power of having a team around you that look at how to make things better and take opportunities to grow and learn continues to drive me to do more….to do better.

My personal hero...

Amelia Earhart. Her inspiration to me is summed up by this quote of hers: "Never interrupt someone doing what you said couldn't be done" . It’s why I called my daughter Amelia. I think she laid the path for many other brave women who have done incredible things, even though others thought them impossible.
