The fast route to digital literacy
Finding the best way to educate digital natives is crucial. It’s not just about shifting classrooms from exercise books to tablets, it’s about giving children research and evaluation skills and making sure they’re safe on the internet.

Our networks for education are all about safeguarding. With TRUSTnet, for example, there’s software that enables you to monitor web browsing by computer, and separate email systems that can be configured for staff and students. We can also help with age-appropriate logins, such as picture-based IDs and passwords for young children.
Our campus-wide security options hold ISO27001 accreditation, and adhere to strict government standards including 2-2-certification. Operating over an Internet Protocol Virtual Private Network (IP VPN), the network operates independently of other network traffic, significantly reducing the risk that pupil, teacher, staff and parent data can’t be intercepted as it moves over the network.
Stretching school budgets
We’re currently saving UK schools more than £100 million a year. Efficiencies of scale can be passed down to schools that share networks and systems within Academy chains or local areas. Cambridgeshire County Council worked with us to provide a shared network framework for school, libraries, community access centres and the fire service. This is currently saving them £1 million a year.
Enabling digital literacy
In 2013, the UK became the first country to make computer programming a compulsory school subject. But closing the gap between policy and practice takes work and money, which is why we’re helping schools set up networks to enable digital policy.
TRUSTnet is a packaged education product that combines e-learning content, safeguards and helpdesk support. It’s a partnership between VMB, London Grid for Learning and Atomwide that supports more than 2,500 schools in the UK. It gives them affordable access to their own high-speed broadband through a virtual private network (VPN) with safeguards and protection. Participating schools are collectively saving about £100 million a year.
