Not sure business cloud computing is for you? Let us help you decide.
At Virgin Media Business we know there’s no one-size fits all cloud solution. That’s why we help to work out just what you need – whether it’s offsite backup and recovery or a Virtual Private Data Centre – and give you a simple, flexible solution that meets your budget and your business needs.
Business cloud computing at a glance
First of all, let’s work out what we mean by cloud computing. We think it has two main features:
1) You move some of your IT infrastructure outside your organisation.
For example, you might move a few business-critical servers to an off-site data centre to take advantage of better resilience and security than you can provide in-house.
How much you choose to outsource is entirely up to you. For example, with a Virtual Private Data Centre (VPDC) solution your infrastructure is actually independent of physical server requirements, giving you great flexibility and making management simple through an online portal.
2) You pay only for what you use.
Rather than having to build your infrastructure to cope with peak demand, cloud pricing typically works on a pay-as-you-go model with pre-agreed credit limits. This means you have much more control over your budget.
How we can help
We believe in offering you a staged way in to cloud computing. Many of our customers try colocation as a first step – a local solution that allows you to keep control. With colocation you still own and manage your servers, but they’re located in someone else’s managed data centre and so benefit from improved security and reslience.
We have data centres within easy reach of most UK businesses, so if you need to be on site you can. And of course you benefit from higher security, power backup and resilience at a fraction of what it would cost you to build the same setup yourself.
Our data centres even keep fuel reserves on site so backup generators can run for longer.
More about colocation services

What is a Virtual Private Data Centre (VPDC)?

In just four easy steps, you can set up a data centre hosted in the cloud. We give you access to a provisioning portal where you can choose computing, network, storage and security services. Accessible via a private or public internet connection, and as you’re billed by the hour, you don’t have to worry about long contract periods. You can increase or decrease services as you need to and any changes you make go live in as little as 90 minutes.

Is connecting to the cloud secure?

Our network meets government level CAS(T) NGN impact level 224 criteria. We offer enterprise-level SLAs on every element of our network, so responsibilities are always clear and consistently documented. You can be sure we are focussed on delivering the right level of security and integrity for your data - whether that be travelling across the Internet, via a dedicated circuit through our private network or across a bespoke built connection with enhanced security.

What benefits will it bring to my business?

Many people focus first on cost savings, but the cloud is much more than a cost-cutting exercise. A flexible approach to IT means you can bring products and services to market faster, innovate with less risk, and enable more flexible ways of working – to name but a few.
