Once my VPDC is up and running, when do I start getting billed?

Once the VPDC services have been successfully deployed, we’ll start billing straight away. We’ll email you and you’ll also see a notification in your online portal.

Can you provide usage reporting?

Yes – your portal gives you access to detailed usage reports, posted monthly.

Where will my data be stored?

Your data is kept in a secure, resilient data centre in the UK. All our sites meet or exceed industry standard security requirements as well as criteria outlined by the Uptime Institute, and are regularly audited. We even store fuel on site for our backup generators.

What is a Virtual Private Data Centre (VPDC)?

In just four easy steps, you can set up a data centre hosted in the cloud. We give you access to a provisioning portal where you can choose computing, network, storage and security services. Accessible via a private or public internet connection, and as you’re billed by the hour, you don’t have to worry about long contract periods. You can increase or decrease services as you need to and any changes you make go live in as little as 90 minutes.

Is connecting to the cloud secure?

Our network meets government level CAS(T) NGN impact level 224 criteria. We offer enterprise-level SLAs on every element of our network, so responsibilities are always clear and consistently documented. You can be sure we are focussed on delivering the right level of security and integrity for your data - whether that be travelling across the Internet, via a dedicated circuit through our private network or across a bespoke built connection with enhanced security.

What benefits will it bring to my business?

Many people focus first on cost savings, but the cloud is much more than a cost-cutting exercise. A flexible approach to IT means you can bring products and services to market faster, innovate with less risk, and enable more flexible ways of working – to name but a few.

What are my connection options?

All you need in order to access our VPDC is an internet connection. You have the choice of four secure connectivity options:
Public internet
Managed Internet Access or Big Red Internet
Managed Internet Access with managed security services
A virtual private network connection

Where will my data be stored?

Your data is kept in a secure, resilient data centre in the UK. All our sites meet or exceed industry standard security requirements as well as criteria outlined by the Uptime Institute, and are regularly audited. We even store fuel on site for our backup generators.
Will the VPDC scale with my business?

Yes, as your business evolves, or experiences seasonal peaks and troughs, you can scale your services up and down based on your unique needs.

So what are we doing in the Cloud Space?

Firstly we have just launched our first truly cloud service - Virtual Private Data Centre.
In just four easy steps, you can set up a data centre hosted in the cloud. Our services use a simple online portal where you choose the computing, network, storage and security services you need and see clear costs for your proposed setup before you confirm your order.
Accessible over private connection or the public internet – whichever suits your needs – changes can be live in 90 minutes. You pay as you go and can add or remove services as needed.
But that’s not all, through our partnerships we have the ability to offer Government specific services from hosting to Private cloud meeting the highest standards and accreditations.

Is cloud computing secure enough for public sector data?

Our standard VPDC product infrastructure resides within the UK within a Savvis data centre designed and built to attain Tier III - IV classification. It is ISO27001 and SAS70 accredited. But we also recognise that Public Sector often need higher security solutions to IL2/3 for sensitive data and through our partnership approach we can design solutions that meet these standards while keeping the core benefits of our standard VPDC product. Our consultants will happily access your needs and find the right solution.
With the right network and data centre, cloud computing can even be more secure than on-site servers.
Virgin Media Business has taken the lead in bringing cost-effective secure connectivity to Britain’s public sector organisations. We’re proud to have achieved Public Services Network accreditation and our network and data centres meet strict security and quality control standards.

Is it worth investing in cloud?

Organisations across the UK are looking for a pay-as-you-go approach to their IT, without compromising quality and performance. The cloud space will certainly continue to grow over the next few years with more and more infrastructure, hardware, services and applications moving into the cloud. Ultimately this will create a faster, more agile and competitive IT landscape that will act as an engine for businesses.

What support can I get?

As well as all the help you need to choose and configure your solution, you and your customers will get support and customer service provided by Virgin Media Business, with second and third line support from our cloud partners if needed.

Why work with Virgin Media Business rather than a cloud-only supplier?

Customers want the benefits of cloud but are concerned about security and performance. We give you access to the best and most user-friendly cloud technology, and deliver that service over our super-fast, security accredited, fibre-optic network that spans the country. All of which is wrapped up in a single point of contact, giving you complete peace of mind.
Whether computing power or secure superfast connectivity, it’s a package that can help you take your customers’ IT to a whole new level of freedom.

How secure is your network?

Our network has recently undergone a rigorous audit of our security procedures and as a result we were awarded the NGN 2-2-4 security accreditation. This new security standard guarantees our dedication to ensuring maximum security and integrity for your data as it travels across our network.
We were the first UK network provider to be awarded Public Services Network (PSN) accreditation, meaning we’re certified to handle government data.

What types of data can your network carry?

Our network’s stellar performance gives you confidence in your performance across all types of data – we’re MEF 14 compliant for voice, data and video in concurrent stress tests across the live network.
