Detailed Info

03, 0800, 0845, 0870, 0844 and 0871 non-geographic inbound business numbers
How do they work and how much does it cost?
- 03 numbers – The relative newcomer, and primarily aimed at Public Sector and not-for-profit organisations who pay a small charge for receiving calls. Unlike 08 numbers, traditionally calls to 03 are included in consumer call plans from both fixed and mobile phones. For callers not on a call plan, the cost will be no more than calling a geographic (01/02) number.
- 0800 Freephone numbers – Encourage your customers to call at no charge to them. Widely used to generate sales leads for new products and services, with calls payable by your business.
- 0845 numbers* – These are well established but watch this space as things are changing. 0845 numbers typically cost callers 4 to 5 pence per minute** and there’s a small pence per minute charge payable by you.
- 0870 numbers* – These are now offered at the equivalent of geographic rates, typically 2 to 3 pence per minute**, and without revenue share.
- 0871 numbers – Callers pay a special rate, ranging from 5 to 10 pence per minute**. There’s no cost to you and depending on how many inbound calls are made you’ll receive a generous revenue in return.
- 0844 numbers – Another set of special rate numbers, ranging from 1 to 5 pence per minute**. Again, you can receive revenue share for the higher cost to call services.
Keeping your current numbers
If you already have non-geographic inbound business numbers with another service provider, you can keep them and still enjoy the benefits of competitive charges and our wide range of hosted call handling solutions. We wouldn’t want you to lose any business; we want to help you increase it.
* We feel we should point out that the future of 0845 and 0870 inbound numbers is currently under review by Ofcom. Nothing is expected to change for 2 – 3 years but for new services, 03, 0800, 0844 and 0871 are more popular choices.
**The actual cost to call non geographic numbers varies by service provider.
