Virgin Media Business gains ISO IEC 20000 certification

Virgin Media Business today announced that it has achieved ISO/IEC 20000 certification as part of its drive to be the UK’s public sector telecoms supplier of choice.

The ISO/IEC 20000 standard is designed to align with Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) best practice guidance and is the first international standard for IT service management. ISO/IEC 20000 requires conformance to the globally-recognised ISO standard and demonstrates the effectiveness of an organisation’s service management system and processes for, customers, colleagues, suppliers and partners. It is rapidly gaining worldwide support, across all vertical sectors. UK Government departments are increasingly demanding certification as a contractual requirement.

To achieve certification, service providers must be independently audited and undertake further annual audits. Virgin Media Business have now successfully gained certification, having spent 18 months and invested more than £1 million to ensure that its practices, procedures and management system controls met the required standards.

Phil Stewart, director of customer service for Virgin Media Business, said: “Our achievement of ISO/IEC 20000 compliance is testament to our philosophy of leaving no stone unturned and going that extra mile in ensuring our service management is exemplary. We have invested heavily in the process, formalising pre-existing procedures, to show that we have full visibility and management of everything we do. It means we can satisfy all of our customers’ requirements and service them to the highest possible standards.

“This compliance will benefit all of our customers, but especially those in the public sector. Increasingly they are requesting that we adhere to ITIL best practice and by becoming compliant we have gone above and beyond that requirement,” he said.

Virgin Media Business becomes the only UK telecoms company, alongside BT, which is publically accredited with the ISO/IEC 20000 certification*.
