Virgin Media Business is leveraging the power of its unique nationwide, fibre-optic network to bring fast and resilient communications to data centres across the UK. Responding to growing demand, Virgin Media Business today launches a new proposition aimed squarely at the data centre market that will dramatically reduce power and space consumption and allow data centres to access carrier grade connectivity simply.
Virgin Media Business is extending its network into selected data centres to deliver carrier grade performance. This gives data centres the power to connect customers to a range of services at speeds up to 10Gbit/s with true network resilience. Each interconnect can connect up to 8,000 users and will drive significant cost savings through reduced space and power consumption.
Andrew McGrath, executive director, commercial of Virgin Media Business said, “As the UK’s appetite for data grows and the move towards cloud computing gains momentum, so the pressures on data centre providers increase. We’ve listened to these challenges and what we’re launching today represents a step change in the way high capacity connectivity is provided. Coupled with our nationwide fibre-optic network we’re able to give data centres the carrier grade connectivity they crave, regardless of whether they are based in London, Leicester, Liverpool or anywhere in the UK. Furthermore, the solution launched today delivers this connectivity in a power and space efficient manner.
"With so much data being transferred every second, the quality of a company’s backhaul network has become a vital part of successful business communications. Our completely independent fibre-optic network has had £13bn of investment over the years and is easily able to cope with the data demands of today and the future. Also, having a network separate from any other carrier means that we’re one of only two suppliers able to offer true network resilience, so IT managers can have peace of mind that their network is secure and can handle all the data that’s thrown at it." McGrath said.
Virgin Media Business prides itself on being close to its customers and making sure that its services fit their needs like a glove. This proposition, combined with Big Red Internet, is a direct response to customer demand and paves the way for future innovation in the data market.
