Healthcare

We deliver the solutions you need to put patients first - that’s because we have an in-depth understanding of the requirements of NHS services’ users, such as acute trusts, primary care trusts, GPs and hospitals. We're working alongside other suppliers as an integral part of NPfIT (National Programme for IT in the health sector). Using our state-of-the-art network, we’ve over 15 years' experience of providing solutions for the public and private sector. We've been awarded a place on a number of Government Framework Agreements, including a contract with the NHS Purchasing and Supply Agency (PASA), as well as being a member of the Cisco Public Sector Partner Programme.

The key to our success is fast, versatile, totally reliable networks to carry solutions that cut costs, reduce wastage, boost efficiency and maximise resources - all while delivering the highest standards of care.

Telemedicine: Hospital care at home

Much of what’s done today in hospital will soon move to the home, where patients are often happier and recover faster. Home-based WiFi-connected sensors can track even subtle health parameters, from glucose levels to ECG and dialysis data, and pipe the data back to the ward or monitoring centre. The result is an improved level of patient care, while easing the pressure on hospital beds.

Broadband links from the home carry Class of Service (CoS) prioritised data directly into the COIN (Community of Interest Network) providing access to the health professionals responsible for patient care. Security features within IPVPN ensure data integrity and confidentiality.

Connected care: Patient records in an instant

Today, fast access to centralised patient records is a lifesaver; whether it’s allergy information delivered to a roadside PDA, or medical records recalled on an operating theatre laptop. While ensuring complete confidentiality at all times, we can help deliver the always-on access at any location demanded by paramedics, consultant surgeons and nursing staff.

Our IPSec VPN technology makes ‘connect anywhere’ solutions possible by securing data travelling over public networks. Such networks include the internet, as well as WiFi hotspots connected to a health service network via our LAN Solutions portfolio. Our IPVPN and Metro Ethernet solutions have also helped cut waiting times and made the delivery of local and national applications possible, such as ‘Choose and Book,’ ‘Patient Records’ and PACS.

Automated prescribing: Just what the doctor ordered

Prescribing and dispensing errors cause 1 in 16 hospital admissions and cost the taxpayer an estimated £354m a year. Automating the processes involved is clearly a top priority. Areas where we can play a key role include systems that automatically check your medical records before releasing prescriptions and the elimination of paper-based dispensing errors.

Solutions from our Site-to-Site Connectivity portfolio can link medical centres and dispensing pharmacies securely, making centralised patient records accessible, while ensuring confidentiality. The end benefit is the reduced possibility of human error in the prescribing and dispensing process.

Asset management: Keeping tabs on equipment

RFID tagging, a technology well proven in commerce and logistics, has a huge role to play in the health industry, especially for locating specialised medical equipment quickly, preventing theft, and ensuring that vital maintenance schedules are actioned. All these areas are major concerns for today’s hospital administrators, because of their obvious impact on patient care standards and capital drain.

From our LAN Solutions portfolio, we deliver ‘connectivity anywhere’ solutions, including hospital-wide wireless networks and the LAN infrastructure supporting advanced RFID-enabled asset tracking. Once in place, assets can be cross-matched, with maintenance schedules to ensure that equipment is kept in working order.
