The way ahead for the criminal justice system demands greater cooperation with criminal justice agencies, such as the police and Crown Prosecution Service. All of these agencies are encouraged to work together to achieve a more coherent system.
By definition, the emergency services - Fire, Ambulance and Police - make their most valuable contribution out on the ‘front line,’ saving lives and maintaining order. We can help maximise frontline resources by minimising their back-office and administrative responsibilities, making vital operational data widely available and instantly accessible to emergency professionals.
We can provide the communication know-how to help pave the way for future-proof, flexible solutions which will benefit the emergency services, police and the community.
With dedicated account teams based across the country, each with specialist expertise for emergency services, we’re the UK’s second biggest fixed-line communications company with the UK's largest alternative network. We've been awarded a place on a number of OGC Agreements, including the Telecom Networks Framework Agreement for voice, data, converged solutions and CCTV. We're also a member of the Cisco Public Sector Partner Programme, so you can be sure that we’ve the skills and expertise to find the right solution for you.
Here’s how we can come to the rescue:
Tackling car crime: Your number’s up
CCTV control centres maintain an up-to-the-minute Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) database. The challenge the police face is getting that data out to their cars in near real time. In the vital hours after the crime, currently issued daily updates can miss suspect vehicles. We tackle this problem by delivering up-to-date ANPR data to police cars in the field as they drive past specially configured WiFi hotspots. Our LAN Solutions can link WiFi hotspots scattered across the operational area to the police network. The network itself could be based on IPVPN or Ethernet Solutions and carry multiple applications. Prioritised Class of Service (CoS) technology ensures that any time a patrol car is within range of a hotspot, it can download the latest ANPR updates.
Crowd control: Monitoring safety
A truly flexible CCTV system must be able to resolve seemingly impossible conflicts, such as cost, scalability and easy access or analysis of archived footage. Here, IP CCTV solutions excel. A single, multi-purpose IP network carries CCTV camera images back to the control centre, allows temporary cameras to be plugged in easily, enables speedy computerised storage and retrieval, as well as providing easier operational management.
Ethernet Solutions or IPVPN creates the secure network that carries all IP CCTV traffic back to the control centre. The network is so flexible that it allows new camera sites to be simply plugged in at any point on the network. Handling bank holiday and festival traffic surges becomes much easier and less expensive. The same network can also carry other, non-CCTV applications.
Tri-Service collaboration: Cooperation saves lives
With Telecoms 2.0 the impossible might just be possible - namely to converge the delivery of three emergency services into one collaborative body. Currently, authorities are exploring ‘tri-service’ emergency call centres manned by staff trained on all three services. Benefits include faster response times, more efficient communication and less duplication of effort. Costs drop too, as three call centres converge into one.
Our Customer Contact Solution provide a very flexible solution for tri-service initiatives. It also offers a best of class platform for managing your customer communications, offering intelligent call routing for prioritising calls, guaranteed call traffic in the event of a disaster and integration of disparate sites into a single virtual contact centre. While the physical provision, management and specialised hardware is outsourced, the contact centre can manage surges in call volumes in-house, using a simple software application to bring lines into and out of play. Separate virtual networks for the three services are delivered over a single physical network infrastructure, based on IPVPN or Ethernet VPN.
Network sharing: Delivering better taxpayer value
With over 40 separate police forces in England and Wales, the rationalisation of their diverse IT platforms has recently been high on many agendas. Although it’s not been fully achieved yet, some police forces have seized the initiative by sharing network infrastructure. This step has brought the economies of scale of a larger network and shared network management resources.
Our Ethernet Solutions and IPVPN can provide multiple ‘virtual’ networks, each fully independent and secure, running over a single physical network infrastructure. This single platform delivers scale economies and shared costs that add up to improved value for the taxpayer.
