Ajay Khindria, Client Director, IBM Communications Sector
What’s the most exciting aspect of working in the UK’s ICT sector?
The two most exciting aspects are the constant change coupled with exciting innovation, working to underpin those changes is great. I’ve been involved in the industry for the last 25 years and the pace of change hasn’t faltered. I know it’s going to continue changing at the same rate and things are going to be very different in the future.
If you were Prime Minister for a day, what would you do to help businesses?
I’d put systems in place that encourage collaboration between smaller businesses. Too many businesses fail because they can’t compete in isolation. If they could focus on their unique value proposition and remove the back office overhead, then I’m sure that many more would flourish..
Which world-changing idea do you wish you’d thought of first?
I wish I’d thought of the internet – the power and the capability it provides to businesses, service organisations and individuals is phenomenal. I'm not sure it’s potential impact was fully understood at the outset, or was capitalised on. It is without doubt one of the most significant technological innovations of my generation.
Which five words best describe what you look for in a provider of connectivity solutions?
Reliable service; customer-focused; innovative; value oriented; reputable.
Offering a smarter communications infrastructure isn’t just about enabling new services and business models. It’s also about improving both the customers’ experience and operational efficiency. IBM has invested billions of dollars in acquiring key business intelligence and analytics companies such as Cognos and SPSS. Combining these assets with IBM's global delivery capability, research assets, Telecom and Media Solution labs, hardware platforms and services capabilities means we can offer IBM solutions that address customer needs both now and in the future.
