Network efficiency

Extending and protecting your network

The first step is to focus on what your business requires from the communications network. What applications do you want to run and how flexible, scalable or future proofed do you want the system to be? Different solutions suit different needs. Dedicated Virtual Private Networks (VPN) between buildings or regional sites add to security and remote workers can be efficiently provided for by a variety of cost effective solutions.

Using Ethernet technology makes it very easy to extend the network and to scale the system up to accommodate growth. Ethernet also decreases the amount of equipment you need in the network which not only reduces capital expenditure but ongoing management and maintenance costs. Intelligent networks are more efficient mainly because they are self-monitoring. Integrated software continually interrogates infrastructure equipment to make sure it is working to optimum levels and, if necessary, traffic is re-routed to prevent bottlenecks.

If there is a problem, alarms are automatically triggered and, where necessary, repair / maintenance alerts are sent directly to engineers. Faults are often rectified before any service degradation is noticed but reports are routinely generated after each incident to document what happened.

The system automatically sends traffic over the most efficient paths and makes sure that different packets of information - voice, video or applications - are transmitted at the right speed to arrive at the right time and in the right place.

Given such high levels of automation, it’s possible to monitor your entire network from a single PC. Alternatively, you can outsource or opt for managed services which tie optimum performance into service level agreements and may be the most cost effective means of future proofing your networks.

Supportive networks

It’s easy to connect your employees and offices regardless of where they are. Wireless and fixed networks can be seamlessly integrated to support remote access with all the necessary protective security systems. Extranets and intranets give online access to your community and support more efficient communications.

Contact centres can be seamlessly linked to company databases and applications over the same network thereby making interactions with customers and suppliers faster and more efficient. Adding more capacity, faster connections, linking back and front office systems and automating manual procedures create an organisation better positioned to compete without significantly increasing either operational or capital expenditure.

Solutions for improving network efficiency
