Virgin Media Eyes Growth with Launch of Virgin Media
Business
Virgin Media today unveiled plans to shake up the UK business
telecoms market with the launch of Virgin Media Business. The
company has an ambitious strategy that will focus on growing
business data, building on a strong track record of double digit
growth over the last three years. Virgin Media Business, formerly
known as ntl:Telewest Business, is increasing
investment in its network and provisioning functions to become the
clear alternative to BT.
With 40 offices located across the UK, Virgin Media Business
will be able to deliver a highly personalised service to mid-market
enterprises and the public sector. It plans to set new standards
for the industry, by capitalising on the customer service heritage
of the Virgin brand. Unlike its competitors, the company will
provide each business customer with their own regionally based,
account team to manage their needs.
Neil Berkett, CEO of Virgin Media, said: “Our next generation
consumer services, in broadband and video on demand, are unrivalled
in speed and quality of service. There is now a significant
opportunity to leverage the full power of our fibre optic network
in the business telecoms market. Virgin Media Business will take
our strong customer-centric approach to a growing and under-served
market in which there is a need for a compelling and distinctive
alternative to BT.”
Virgin Media Business immediately becomes the largest
business-to-business company within the Virgin group. Its launch
reflects Virgin Media’s intention to focus strategically and
operationally on maximising the commercial potential of its
wholly-owned network. This network asset is the only national Next
Generation Network in the UK giving the company a significant
competitive advantage over BT and other business telecoms providers
who do not own their own UK-wide access network infrastructure. It
allows the company to innovate by bringing new services to the
market and affords Virgin Media Business with economies of scale
that it can pass on to customers.
Mark Heraghty, managing director of Virgin Media Business, said:
“We have big ambitions for Virgin Media Business. Delivering
fabulous fundamentals - great service, good quality and value for
money - is at the heart of our strategy. Over the last three years
we’ve invested heavily to put the building blocks in place, which
means we’re more than fit to wear the Virgin badge.
“In the last 12 months in particular, we’ve started to reap the
rewards of that focussed investment. Projects such as working with
the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Partnership (HIOW) to deliver a
cutting-edge £90 million network that will transform public
services in the region are testament to our ability to drive and
underpin radical growth. Our customers’ success is ours and, as
Virgin Media Business, we’re committed to investing in the things
that are important to our customers,” he said.
